About Us
The Tangipahoa Voluntary Council on Aging provides services and assistance to help residents of Tangipahoa Parish, age 60 and older, remain independent and in their own homes as long as possible. Services
We offer a number of services to make your life easier and better. In addition to our Senior Centers, our Tangipahoa Council on Aging offers home delivered meals, medical alert buttons, light housekeeping services, and transportation. We are here
Activities
We offer a number of activities designed for fun and fellowship. Whether you are interested in painting, join a book club, or regularly exercising, each of our Senior Centers has a number of scheduled activities ready for your participation.
Transportation
Our buses are just a phone call away. If you can’t drive or need a ride, we will schedule a time to pick you up at your front door and drive you to a doctor’s appointment or one of our Senior Centers for a full day of fun, hot meals and fellowship.
Senior Centers
Amite Senior Center
The Amite Senior Center serves seniors in the central part of Tangipahoa Parish by providing assistance, activities and services that enhance their dignity, support their independence and encourage them to have social interaction. The Council on Aging provides seniors with a vital connection to others in the community; therefore, reducing the barriers that often cause feelings of isolation. Seniors in Tangipahoa Parish age 60 or older, are strongly encourage you to get involved and join one of our five Senior Centers!

Hammond Senior Center
The Hammond Senior Center is our largest and serves the most seniors of our five centers. Each day there are a number of activities and services in our Hammond Center that enhance and support our seniors and help them reduce the feeling of isolation. The Hammond Center offers a hot breakfast and lunch each day and it is the hub for our home delivered meals. The large computer center and exercise room make it a place where seniors enjoy congregating.

Independence Senior Center
The Independence Senior Center is in newly re-furbished space donated by the Town of Independence. This Center has a great gathering space for our seniors and since moving into this new location, the number of participating seniors have increased. Everyone 60+ is invited to gather daily in this convenient center to socialize with their fellow seniors to enjoy a hot, fresh meal prepared daily.

Kentwood Senior Center
Serving the north-end of Tangipahoa Parish, the Kentwood Senior Center is a very active center. Hot meals are served for breakfast and lunch and there are always plenty of activities and programs for seniors. Guest speakers are here to provide information for senior safety, senior health matter and general interest topics. Everyone 60+ is invited to join us at our Kentwood Senior Center.

Ponchatoula Senior Center
The Ponchatoula Senior Center services the southern part of Tangipahoa Parish. Conveniently located, our seniors enjoy a number of activities, programs and services provided the Council on Aging and community volunteers. This Center has many active seniors who enjoy spending their time socializing, learning and playing games to keep their minds sharp and fresh. Hot meals are served daily for breakfast and lunch.

Transportation Center
Reliable transportation is extremely important for the seniors in Tangipahoa Parish. The Tangipahoa Voluntary Council on Aging provides curb-to-curb transportation for our seniors. Each weekday our handicapped equipped vans travel the parish picking up seniors to bring them to one of our five senior centers. Our vans also bring our seniors to their medical appointments, pharmacy and local grocery stores.

Pick-up time can be as early as 1-1/2 to 2 hours before scheduled trip. Riders should be ready 2 hours before their scheduled pick-up time.
Riders must be scheduled by 12:00 noon at least 24 hours before transportation is needed.
How Our Transportation Works
Operated by the Tangipahoa Voluntary Council on Aging and partially funded by the LA Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration through Tangipahoa Parish Government, our buses offer curb-to-curb, non-emergency transportation. Riders are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
