EARLY VOTING for the upcoming Proposition elections will be conducted from Saturday, April 20 through Saturday, April 27. It will be delivered DAILY ( less and except on Sunday ) between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at both Offices of the Registrar of Voters. ( at the Parish Courthouse in Amite, and at the Sheriff’s Substation on Club Deluxe Road in Hammond. )

Please remember to bring your picture I.D. with you to vote early !

SCHOOL BOARD PROPOSITIONS

The language on the ballots of the two School Board Propositions elections scheduled to be held on 04 MAY 2013 reads as posted below. The Parish Wide Proposition is essentially the School Board’s request of the voters throughout the Parish to re-dedicate proceeds of an existing 1% sales tax being collected parish wide.

All registered voters within any Precinct of the Parish will be eligible to vote on this issue.

    Parishwide Proposition

    (Sales Tax)

    (Re-dedication)

    Shall the Parish School Board of the Parish of Tangipahoa, State of Louisiana ( the "School Board" ), be authorized to re-dedicate all of the proceeds received by the School Board from the levy and collection of a 1% sales and use tax authorized at an election held on July 21, 2007 (the "Tax") (an estimated $17,000,000 is reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), so that all proceeds of said Tax ( after paying the reasonable and necessary costs and expenses of collecting and administering the Tax) be allocated to the School Board to be used for: land acquisition, acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining, equipping and operating schools, including school related buildings, equipment and facilities; and/or paying salaries and benefits for public school employees of the School Board; said Tax to be subject to funding into bonds from time to time for capital improvements in the manner provided by the Laws of Louisiana?

    Consolidated School District #1 Proposition

    The District consists of the following Precincts and Parts of Precincts (essentially in the vicinity of the City of Hammond):

    WHOLE PRECINCTS: 040, 041 - 043, 045 - 049, 120B, 133A, 141, 141A, and 143.

    PART of PRECINCTS: 040A, 044, 072A, 120A, 127A - 133, 137, 137B, 137C, 139, 145.

    All registered voters within the District will be eligible to vote on this issue AND on the ParishWide Sales Tax Re-dedication Proposition.

    The Ballot for Consolidated School District #1 reads as follows:

    Shall Consolidated School District #1 of Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana (the "District"), be authorized to levy a special tax of fifteen (15) mills on all property subject to taxation within the District (an estimated $3,420,000 is reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year) for a period of five (5) years, beginning with the year 2013 and ending with the year 2017, for the purpose of providing funds for operating, maintaining and equipping accelerated classes, visual and performing arts programs, K-12 "International Baccalaureate Programs," Montessori Education, Communication Magnet programs, and /or other educational enhancement and magnet programs; and paying salaries and benefits of teachers and other public school personnel that are necessary to maintain and/or further implement such programs?

On their homepage, go to the panel titled "PAR Pulications" on the right side of the screen. Scroll down to the last option, "Constitutional Amendments" and click on that icon. A new list will appear and at the top of the list a line reads: "PAR Guide to 2102 Constitutional Amendments September 2012" By selecting that option a PDF report listing all the amendments, complete with an explanation of each and how voting "YES" or "NO" will change existing law.     The "List of Inactive Voters" which is available at the Website of the Secretary of State. If your search by name reveals that you are currently an "Inactive Voter", you must contact my Office prior to October 9th or complete and "Address Confirmation At the Polls"( on November 6th prior to voting ).

    If you don't, you will be cancelled after the December General Election. Voters may also obtain beaucoup information from the Secretary of State's Website: www.sos.la.gov

     

    ON-LINE VOTER INFORMATION INSTRUCTIONS

    1. To retrieve information for The November 6, 2012 Election including voter status, ballot information, how to register, where you vote, and much more.

    • Log on to www.sos.la.gov (this is the Secretary of State web site.)
       
    • In the middle of the screen there is a panel with green Louisiana State logo, click on "Geaux Vote".
       
    • On the screen that comes up will appear a box with the words "Are you a voter". Click in this box. This will bring up another screen with a list of topics. By selecting any one of the topics you will be directed to the appropriate information.
